New York—After more than 40 years, even the best publications can benefit from a little tweaking. So, with its October 1999 issue, AIChE Journal unveiled a new four-color cover and a new editorial section entitled "Perspectives."

"The cover facelift is an attempt to harmonize a classic journal look with a modern image that will work for both print and online versions," Haeja Han, AIChE associate publisher and managing editor of the Journal explained. Each month, the new cover will offer a unique visual to illustrate the versatility and diversity of the chemical engineering discipline and to bring readers' attention to new developments in emerging areas.
The cover image will usually highlight that month's "Perspectives" column. Edited by Julio M. Ottino, associate editor of the Journal, the section adds a new dimension to the publication by offering easy-to-read, interesting, and thought-provoking overviews of specific topics. "Perspectives" will be written by experts but for a general audience, helping R&D professionals keep up with new developments across the spectrum of chemical engineering.

Matt Tirrell, editor of the Journal, notes that, "‘Perspectives' articles will be written by a mix of academic and industrial authors, addressing themes of both the avant garde and the traditional. Occasionally, we will look outward, where challenges and opportunities may lie, such as bio-informatics, green processing, and global warming. The articles reflect the authors' viewpoints, and we will showcase a variety of thoughts and opinions on these topics. ‘Perspectives' will not only enhance communication across the field of chemical engineering, but will also create a lively forum within AIChE Journal."

These changes follow the June '99 launch of AIChE Journal Online, through ScienceDirect. The online version of the AIChE Journal offers full-text of all issues published since January 1998. It's fully searchable and subscribers can access articles as soon as they are published.
